Hovenweep and the Road to Ruins
The road from Cortez west to Hovenweep National Monument parallels McElmo Creek through a very scenic canyon north of 9979' Ute Peak. There are country houses all up and down the canyon, and a charter school. It was partly cloudy when we got to the monument headquarters, but Jacque and I walked down the trail and got some fine pictures of the ruins just as the clouds parted.
